Door de Corona crisis is het klimaatprobleem enigszins op de achtergrond geraakt. Maar gaan we, na het vinden van een goed werkend vaccin tegen het virus, weer op de oude voet verder dan zal het klimaatprobleem er nog steeds zijn. En blijft de dreiging van het stijgende water voor de lage landen nog steeds aanwezig. Voor een tentoonstelling in SALON2060 - Antwerpen, heb ik een speciaal werk gemaakt. Daarvoor heb ik het stroomgebied van de Schelde verkend en hoe men hier inspeelt op het steeds hoger wordende waterpeil. Het resultaat is een aantal aquarellen die de mogelijke situatie van Antwerpen en het stroomgebied van de Schelde in 2100 weergeven.

One day, a couple decided to get a dog. 
They heard that someone was giving away puppies, so they went to see them and brought one home. 
The puppy grew into a fine young dog, always jolly, barking and wagging its tail every time someone passed by. They were happy with it, but the couple both worked away from home, and every morning when they closed the door behind them, they could hear the dog cry, for it couldn’t stand to be left alone. 
And every time they heard the dog’s cry, their hearts shattered like glass falling onto the ground.
Finally they decided it had to stop, and they went to get a second dog.
And that is when the frenzy started,
It was two dogs, then three, and finally they were left with a small Dalmatian,
A blue French bulldog, a flat Labrador, and a big Great Dane. 
The couple was so happy with their four dogs, 
and every morning,
when they would leave for work and turn the key in the key hole,
they would hear coming from inside the house;
a cacophony of wails and cries,
and their hearts would shatter like glass falling on the ground.

The Infinite Youthful

Giving value to an everyday object like a cleaning towel by manually stitching a hundred of them together, just to have someone erasing the stitches on purpose. 
Looking for a meaning, connecting thoughts by embroidering little poems and sentences onto the towels, trying to very subtly hint what it’s all about. 
Trying to make a connection with the beauty industry, where insecurities can be fixed quickly,
until the point where there is nothing left of the original beauty. 

It’s a thin line, it’s easily crossed and time is irrelevant to determine value. 

Asking these questions and looking for their answers is a process of confrontation in which layer by layer, the fixed ideas of beauty constructed over the years slowly dissolve.

We take layer after layer
Until nothing is left,
As a way to make the used unseen.
Hiding while no one is seeking.
Hiding from all that is real.

"Deze installatie is een ode aan onze vriendschap en ook aan die heftige periode. Beide zijn niet meer van elkaar los te denken en dat hoeven we niet eens te betreuren. Niets is eenduidig, niets staat vast. Zo is gebleken. Alles heeft vier zijden. En zelden zien we het geheel. Flarden angst, flarden dromen, flarden herinneringen, flarden werkelijkheid…"
